    The Great George Hotel nominated for "Canada's Leading Hotel" by the 2010 World Travel Awards

    The Great George – Charlottetown's Historic Boutique Hotel – has received the honour of being nominated the title of "Canada's Leading Hotel" by the 2010 World Travel Awards. The World Travel Awards, heralded by the Wall Street Journal as the "Travel industry's equivalent to the the Oscars", are the most prestigious awards program in the global travel industry.  To be awarded one has become the one of the highest accolades a travel destination can receive

    'Fair Hotels' campaign launched in Ireland

    More than 40 hotels across Ireland have signed up to a new campaign designed to encourage consumers to support businesses that promote the fair treatment of staff. The Fair Hotels initiative, which was unveiled on 25 May at Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin, will use the collective purchasing power of 850,000 workers to make an "ethical choice" about where they stay

    The best laid action plans…

    Three years ago the government of The Best Place on Earth introduced a Tourism Action Plan. The plan was developed to help meet the challenge of doubling B.C.'s tourism business from $9 billion to $18 billion by 2015. Stan Hagen, then the Minister of Tourism, Sport and the Arts, noted in the plan's introduction that "global tourism rates are up, and forecasters expect it to continue to grow at about four per cent for the next 15 years

    Government of Canada Grants $260,000 in Funding to James Bay Tourism and Eeyou Istchee Tourism

    The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $260,000 in non-repayable financial assistance to James Bay Tourism and Eeyou Istchee Tourism. Granted through the Community Diversification program, this funding will enable the two regional tourism associations, which will themselves invest a total of $270,000, to implement a well-targeted joint commercialization strategy
