Ontario Tourism Education Corporation to Lead Workforce Development Strategy Project
December 20 2011
The Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC) has been contracted by the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario to create a provincial Tourism Workforce Development Strategy. The CTHRC would like to congratulate OTEC, its partner human resource organization in Ontario, as they begin work on this important project being funded through the Tourism Development Fund and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
This project will involve conducting an inventory of existing workforce development frameworks and their capacity to meet industry needs during times of changing market conditions. A cohesive workforce development strategy and implementation plan will then be developed and validated through extensive consultation with regional and provincial stakeholders.
Over many years of partnership with OTEC, the CTHRC has come to value the key relationships that exist between OTEC and the industry, including business and labour associations, education and employment services, and economic development and workforce planning organizations. These ties to industry stakeholders make OTEC the ideal organization to lead the Provincial Tourism Workforce Development Strategy project.
The CTHRC believes that this project will strengthen OTEC’s already strong relationship with tourism stakeholders in the province, and that the work involved will help foster the cooperation and collaboration needed to plan effectively for changes in the labour market and ensure the sustainability of the tourism and hospitality sector both in Ontario and across Canada.
