Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism Partner Newsletter - Spring 2009

Greetings

Greeting ImageThe Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism is continuing to grow, both in the number of schools operating the program and in the variety of instructional techniques. We have welcomed our first school in the territories – Porter Creek Secondary in Whitehorse, YT. As technology advances, the program continues to evolve in order to capture the interest of students and CATT educators in the digital age.

There is a new community area on our website where teachers, students, and alumni can interact. There are also some exciting discussions happening with virtual programs so that CATT is able to reach out to an even larger audience.

"While completing my work experience hours throughout the community, I have been able to see many different areas of the industry. Each placement has given me the chance to work with different groups of people and learn many different tasks. I have become very interested and determined to pursue a career in this area. I have become a lot more involved within the community." - Alana Pearson, Highland Secondary School, Cornox, B.C.

Global Travel & Tourism Partnership

In November 2008, two Academy students from St. Paul’s Collegiate in Elie, Manitoba traveled to Nice, France with their Coordinator, Susanne Saiko-Gamble, to present their case study at the International Student-Teacher Conference. Their topic was Responsible Tourism: An Impact Study of the Effects of Geocaching on Canada’s Wetlands. The full case study will be posted on GTTP’s website soon. CATT is currently accepting applications for the 2009 case study writing competition on “Sport Tourism.”

Your Partnership

The Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism values your partnership in delivering a quality program to high school students across Canada. With projected labour shortages in the tourism industry forecast by CTHRC’s Tourism Labour Supply and Demand Projections Model, attracting young people to a career in tourism is vital. With the Academy program, they acquire skills and knowledge for a head start in a diverse and exciting array of job opportunities. Thank you for your involvement in supporting a worthy program. Your investment will be returned in tomorrow’s tourism workforce!
