The 2005 Tourism HR Forum opened with a spectacular presentation, hosted by the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture & Heritage. It featured dramatic and beautiful images of Nova Scotia, and culminated in a moving live vocal performance, promoting the virtues of Canada. The presentation proved to be the perfect kick-off to two days of frank, innovative and thought-provoking dialogue on the HR issues facing the Canadian tourism industry.

Belinda Stronach, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Minister responsible for Democratic Renewal, announced on Monday November 7th that the Government of Canada will provide nearly 8 million dollars, through the Sector Council Program, to the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), to promote a skilled workforce in the tourism sector. The tourism funding announcement was part of a larger one, which included funding for the Cultural Human Resource Council.

Darlene Grant Fiander, Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council and the Holiday Inn Toronto – Yorkdale received the Hotel Association of Canada’s inaugural Hall of Fame Awards of Excellence last night, winning in the Human Resources category. The awards were sponsored by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), and presented during an awards dinner at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
