Work Experience

The Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism connects you with the world of work through a work placement/cooperative education experience. Work placement ensures you have the opportunity to apply your skills and knowledge in a real life work situation.

Four components enrich the success of the program for students and employers: pre-placement orientation sessions, the student’s individualized training plan, integrated learning sessions, and the work assignment. The first three components are the responsibility of the school, and the last component is the responsibility of the host employer.

Work experience in the tourism industry is designed to enhance your awareness of the range of employment and of industry’s employment needs related to their field of interest.

By getting involved in a work experience program, your employer will work in collaboration with Academy educator to provide:

  • Hours of workplace experience
  • A worksite supervisor/ mentor
  • Experiential work activities develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills
  • A valuable opportunity to see the internal workings of the industry/ business;
  • An end of work term evaluation

Ask your Academy Coordinator how you can get involved in a Work Experience program.
